Vasnetsov, The Frog Tsarevna (also called the Frog Princess)

Viktor Mikhailovich Vasnetsov (Lop'jal, May 15 (N.S.), 1848— Moscow, June 23, 1926) was a Russian artist who specialized in mythological and historical subjects. He is considered a key figure of the revivalist movement in Russian art.

During his nearly 60 year career, Vasnetsov travelled throughout Russia and even into Paris. It was during his time in Moscow (1877-884) that he focused most on fairy tales, illustrating Russian tales and bylinas (traditional epics in parts of Eastern Europe), and producing some of his most well-known work, including Three Tsarevnas of the Underground Kingdom (1879-881) and The Magic Carpet (1880), though at the time they were considered unimportant. The Frog Tsarevna, oil on canvas, now resides in the Vasnetsov Memorial Museum in Moscow.
